Liverpool journalist Theo Squires has been sharing his thoughts on Reds left-back Kostas Tsimikas and his future at the Merseyside club.

This comes after Squires made an appearance on a recent episode of the Liverpool Echo’s Blood Red Podcast where he spoke about a number of topics concerning Jurgen Klopp’s side.

First up in this Mo Salah quiz, what is his current squad number for Liverpool?

On the subject of Tsimikas and his future as a Liverpool player, Squires had this to say on the matter. (31.53) (32.26)

He said: “That’s what we’re hearing that Liverpool have no intention of letting Tsimikas leave. It wasn’t an ideal season for him was it at Anfield.

“We’re hearing that Liverpool were very impressed with Tsimikas [during] the second half of the season, in particular, in training, and they’ve got a lot of faith in him as a project.

“He’s still a good age for a defender and while he might not have had anywhere near as much game time as he would have liked last season, I think he only played twice in the Premier League as a sub, it is going to be a different story for him next year.

“They are going to have to rotate their options a bit more, and they’ll have a bit more stability elsewhere in the camp, and you’ll be able to see a bit more about him.

“He’s shown glimpses of his talent, we know he’s good getting forwards and getting crosses into the box, it’s the question mark of if he’s good enough defensively in the Premier League, and the fact that we’re a year into his Liverpool career and we don’t know the answer, shows we haven’t seen enough of him.”

Liverpool signed the defender during the 2020 summer transfer window from Greek club Olympiacos for a fee of £11.7 million.

TIF Thoughts on Theo Squires’ comments on Tsimikas and his future at Liverpool…

Since arriving at Anfield, the 25-year-old, who is currently valued at £7.2 million, has made just seven appearances for the club across all competitions (per Transfermarkt).

Should Liverpool sell Tsimikas this summer?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Given the lack of regular game time Tsimikas has had during his first season at Liverpool, it’s understandable why the question of his future at the club has been raised in this podcast, however, it is reassuring to hear that the club apparently has no intention of selling him this summer.

In our view, the only way Tsimikas would get more game time at Liverpool next season would be if Andy Robertson were to pick up an injury that would keep him out of action for a significant amount of time considering how many appearances he made this season.
