Leeds United journalist Phil Hay has been sharing his thoughts on Whites goalkeeper Kiko Casilla and his current situation at the Yorkshire club as well as his future.

This comes after Hay made a return to The Athletic’s The Phil Hay Show after taking a break for health reasons to talk about a variety of topics concerning Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

Leeds' all-time top Premier League goalscorer is Mark Viduka but how many did he score?

On the subject of Casilla and his current situation at the club, Hay had this to say about the shot-stopper.

He said: “I thought it was quite revealing what Bielsa said and what he did towards the end of last season – playing Casilla and speaking again in his defence, he obviously thinks really highly of him and he obviously wants him around the club, and Casilla is still under contract, he’s on a high wage, but now that they’re in the Premier League, it’s not comparatively as high as it was percentage-wise in the Championship.”

Leeds signed Casilla back in the 2019 January window from Spanish giants Real Madrid on a free transfer. Since then, the 34-year-old, who is currently valued at £720k, has made 62 appearances for the Yorkshire club across all competitions in which he has managed to keep 23 clean sheets in the process (per Transfermarkt).

TIF Thoughts on Phil Hay’s comments on Casilla…

With Bielsa previously sharing his admiration of Casilla and the fact that he still has two years left on his current contract at Elland Road, it’s hard to see the shot-stopper leaving the club this summer.

Would you be happy to see Casilla continue at Leeds?

In our view, given how much Bielsa values Casilla, it seems that despite Illan Meslier being the club’s first-choice goalkeeper after he made 35 appearances in the Premier League games last season, the Spaniard is still an important figure in the squad, despite all that has happened during his time at the club.
