Journalist Graham Smyth has recently talked about Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa’s future at the club and the status of his potential new deal.

Smyth appeared on the latest episode of the Inside Elland Road podcast and the panel talked about numerous issues involving Leeds United. One topic of discussion was Bielsa’s future at the club and whether he’ll sign a new deal.

The journalist stated that Bielsa’s contract extension is only a matter of time before it is done and it would be a stunning U-turn from the Argentine if he doesn’t stay at the club for next season.

In the past, Bielsa has denied reports which stated that he’s about to sign a new two-year deal at the club, as Argentine outlet La Nacion had stated that he was on the verge of committing until 2023.

Smyth stated that he doesn’t see Bielsa leaving Leeds at this point in time anyway, because of the project in place.

He claimed: “It’s just a case of waiting for it to get done really. It’d be a stunning U-turn if he didn’t and also, I couldn’t see him leaving Leeds in a lurch like this, with so little time to get themselves sorted and prepared.

“I know there’s a lot of clubs swapping managers and changing managers at the minute and needing managers. But I think with the way the project has been built at Leeds and the with the way it’s worked and the support he’s had from the club, the way he’s fallen in love with the fans in the area, I just can’t see him leaving them in the lurch.”

TIF Thoughts on Bielsa’s future…

It has been stated that Bielsa is set to sign a rolling one-year contract soon and this will increase the Argentine’s salary as well. Andrea Radrizzani is reportedly confident that Bielsa will sign a new deal soon.

So even if Bielsa has previously denied the claims, things do seem positive that he’ll extend his deal and Smyth seems confident too. So perhaps, Leeds fans shouldn’t be worried about Bielsa’s future.
