Journalist Beren Cross has been discussing all things Leeds United on a Facebook Live video for Leeds Live with this summer’s transfer window now open.

One topic of discussion was the future of Leeds left-back Ezgjan Alioski, with the North Macedonian’s contract set to expire at the end of this month.

Should Leeds extend Alioski's contract?

Speculation has surrounded the 29-year-old’s future for a while now, with it originally believed Alioski had signed a pre-contract with Galatasaray.

However, it is now reported there is a big chance Alioski will sign an extended deal with the Yorkshire club this summer following reports from Turkey suggesting Galatasaray were no longer in contention to sign the left-back.

Discussing the £4.5m-rated star’s future with Leeds, Cross had the following to say.

“I think it’s pretty obvious they’re after a left-back. They’ve said as much themselves that a left-back is clearly what they need.

“They’re still hopeful Alioski will stay. I mean, even now, they are still very hopeful. I think they were quite surprised when it became clear he hadn’t signed a pre-contract elsewhere, which I think was music to their ears.

“I think Alioski wants to stay but it comes down to who is offering what and of course his agent is going to try and drive the price that he can and try to earn Alioski more money elsewhere.”

TIF Thoughts on Alioski’s future…

Despite Cross suggesting Leeds are still hopeful of Alioski signing a new deal, he does also state left-back is a position they are looking to add to.

There has been reports of interest from the Yorkshire club in Romain Perraud and Javi Galan which would suggest Leeds are keeping their options open despite their reported confidence in extending Alioski’s stay.

With this summer’s Euros starting later this week, we think it is unlikely we will hear any developments regarding Alioski’s future but it will be interesting to see if Leeds pursue other left-backs in the meantime.
