Selling Allan to Real Madrid this summer would be a massive step backwards, former Premier League midfielder Carlton Palmer has warned Everton.

Allan only joined the Toffees last year but is already being linked with a Goodison Park exit following Carlo Ancelotti’s return to the Santiago Bernabeu.

According to Spanish outlet Defensa Central (via TheHardTackle), Ancelotti is keen on a swift reunion with the Brazilian as he looks to strengthen his midfield options.

Would you be devastated to see Allan go?

Would be gutted

Would be gutted

He can go

He can go

Speaking exclusively to TIF about Allan potentially being on the move again this summer, Palmer said:

“It’s a massive step backwards, but this is why you have contracts at football clubs. Unfortunately, today, if players don’t like to honour that, if a club comes in for them, they’ve got their agents and whatever and they kick up a fuss.

“In the end, it creates so many problems, the club see it as better business to let the player go.”

Undoubtedly, losing Allan would be a massive step backwards. He was so important for Everton last season, shielding that back four.

Registering 3.3 tackles per league game, no Everton player managed to record a better average than the 30-year-old in that department (via WhoScored).

Allan, simply put, is quite the defensive midfielder, one the Merseyside club will surely not want to lose after only signing him from Napoli in the last summer transfer window.
