Dean Windass reckons that Ruben Neves is the “ball playing” midfielder that Arsenal require.

With Granit Xhaka on the verge of leaving for Roma, the Gunners are going to need to replace the Swiss, who’s been a near enough guaranteed starter throughout Mikel Arteta’s 18-month reign.

And reports suggest that Arsenal are already lining up a move for Neves, who has made his Wolves teammates aware that he wants to leave the club this summer, with the fee being touted around £35m.

Neves has been outstanding for Wolves over the previous four seasons, missing just 11 league games throughout, and has a reel of spectacular goals to his name in the golden shirt.

In what month did Mikel Arteta take over as the Arsenal boss?

One of his five Premier League strikes last season came in a 2-1 victory over the Gunners back in February, but Windass exclusively told This is Futbol that the Portuguese midfielder could be playing against the Midlands outfit in that very fixture in 2021-2022:

“Now that’s a fit because he’s an Arteta type of player, he plays like Arteta.

“I do think Arsenal need a ball-playing midfielder like Arteta, and Neves ticks things over, so that would be a great move for himself and if Arsenal come in for him – I can see that.”
