Marcus Bent has exclusively told This is Futbol that he’s been informed by Everton that the club won’t be signing Real Madrid left-back Marcelo this summer.
Would you like Everton to sell Calvert-Lewin?
Yes
No
According to the Mirror, both Everton and Leeds were interested in buying the Brazilian but Bent has all-but ruled out the Toffee’s chances of making a sensational move for the 33-year-old.
Everton currently have just one left-back in the shape of Lucas Digne, but Ben Godfrey covered there on several occasions last season, which is why the Merseysiders are keen to strengthen elsewhere.
Marcelo, who’s made more than 500 appearances for the Spanish giants since moving from South America back in 2007, has just 12 months remaining on his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu, but won’t be leaving for Goodison Park should he quit Madrid.
Everton also have full-back Jonjo Kenny, who’s played at left-back in his career, returning from a successful loan spell at Celtic – giving them extra cover.
When asked whether Marcelo could join the Toffees this summer, Bent exclusively told This is Futbol:
“What Everton have said to me, they don’t need a left-back, Marcelo wouldn’t be cheap and there are more important priorities elsewhere.”
