Former Everton striker Marcus Bent believes that the Toffees should be looking to sign Southampton ace Danny Ings.

Ings joined Southampton on an initial loan deal in 2018 from Everton’s city rivals Liverpool. However, after an impressive campaign for the Saints, where he scored seven Premier League goals, Ings’ deal was made permanent.

Since joining Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side on a full-time basis, he has scored 34 Premier League goals in two full seasons.

Speaking to Football FanCast, Bent believes the form Ings has shown during his time on the south Coast would make him an excellent addition to the Toffees’ frontline, and a fantastic player to play partner alongside Dominic Calvert-Lewin:

“They definitely need to bring someone in, they’re talking about Ings. He’s 28.

“He’s not going to be a replacement for years, he’s not going to be at the club for years. He’s doing well at the minute.

“But talking to a couple of people at the club, he’d be a good buy, I wouldn’t say a cheap buy, but he’d be someone who would come in and probably play around DCL and he’d get his number of goals too, I think.”

TIF Thoughts on Marcus Bent’s recommendation of Danny Ings…

The 28-year-old, who is valued at £19.8 million (via Transfermarkt), has enjoyed great personal success during his time at St. Mary’s as he finished one goal behind Jamie Vardy in the 2019/20 Golden Boot race, whilst also being rewarded with his second England cap in September 2020.

A move to a club like Everton could be perfect for Ings as he enters the peak years of his career, as it would ultimately give him a chance to challenge for European football and potentially earn more England caps.

For Everton, the signing of a proven Premier League scorer like Ings could help them achieve their ambitions of European football, all while taking some of the burden off Calvert-Lewin.

In this case, the deal would make sense for both Ings and Everton.
