Journalist Johnny Ward has recently given his views about Everton’s move to sign ex-Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez.

Ward appeared on the latest episode of the OTB Football Saturday podcast and one topic of discussion was Benitez’s potential move to Goodison Park this summer.

Ward praised Benitez a lot, describing him as a ‘humble’ character and believes that the Spaniard will be great for the game in the Premier League.

Benitez is reportedly set to be appointed as the Toffees’ boss and the club are already planning for his arrival. It is thought Everton had a list of eight potential candidates before they decided to bring in the Spaniard.

Ward talked about this potential appointment and claimed: “I’ve met people who’ve met him and he’s just absolutely besotted with football. He’s not a guy befitting the man of all the money he’s probably made down the years and all the things he’s won and so forth.

“He’s just a real humble football guy and if you talk to him about football, he’ll respect your opinion. I think the English football game will be far better for him to be back in it. And not at Newcastle, but at a more functioning club like Everton, I think it’d be great for the game.”

TIF Thoughts on Benitez to Everton…

Benitez has already won a fair share of trophies in his career, having won the Champions League and the Europa League. He’s also won La Liga, having also won the Championship title with Newcastle and the Coppa Italia with Napoli.

To kick off this quiz on Seamus Coleman, what squad number does the right-back currently wear for the Toffees?

So Everton are clearly going after a proven manager who has a great track record at many clubs. But the Toffees have arguably also gone down the same route when they had hired Carlo Ancelotti, who had also won a fair share of accolades elsewhere. So this potential appointment of Benitez may be a case of them going down the same path and they should be wary of any consequences.
