Crystal Palace could be set to release up to 22 players this summer, so the South Londoners could well be one of the busiest Premier League teams in the transfer market.
And former Eagles striker Marcus Bent believes that bringing in Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain would be a good start for the Selhurst Park outfit.
Would Lampard be a good appointment for Crystal Palace?
Yes
No
The England midfielder has struggled for first-team opportunities at Anfield this season, making just 13 appearances in the league, two of which came against Palace, including in Liverpool’s final-day win which sealed their top four place.
Of those 13 outings, only two were starts, meaning a move away from Merseyside could be on the cards for the former Arsenal man, who’s slipped down Jurgen Klopp’s pecking order.
Whilst only one of Palace’s out of contract players is a central midfielder, the addition of Oxlade-Chamberlain, who’s enjoyed Champions League and Premier League success during his four seasons at Anfield and would reportedly only cost £17m, would be a big step in the right direction for whoever replaces Roy Hodgson in the dugout.
His injury history could become a potential hinderance, but the 27-year-old, who Rio Ferdinand previously said that ‘Klopp loves’, hasn’t missed a single game through injury since Christmas following his early-season knee problems.
And Bent exclusively told This is Futbol that bringing in the Southampton Academy graduate would be a big coup for Palace:
“Oxlade-Chamberlain would be a good move for them. He hasn’t set the world alight, but for Crystal Palace to get that sort of player at the club would be great for them.”
