Crystal Palace podcaster Dan Cook has given Eagles fans an update on Palace’s pursuit of former Borussia Dortmund manager Lucien Favre, suggesting that the expected wait for his work permit is nothing more than a formality.

It has been reported over recent days that Favre has been lined up to succeed Roy Hodgson, who left his position at the end of the domestic season in May.

Palace’s search for their new manager has gone on for far longer than planned after talks broke down between Nuno Espirito Santo at the eleventh hour.

However, Cook has insisted he is delighted with the prospective appointment, which he believes is in the final stages as he referred to all of the technicalities that need to be done as “box-ticking”.

Speaking on the HLTCO podcast, he had this to say on the situation:

“This work permit issue, depending on who you talk to, it seems like something of a formality, really. He more than meets the criteria given his long and distinguished managerial career across different countries within Europe. Of course, the most recent role that he had was at Borussia Dortmund, but he’s also worked with Monchengladbach, with Nice, with clubs in Austria.

“A man that has all sorts of experience and you would assume that it’s just a box-ticking exercise, really, to get him to work permit granted.”

TIF Thoughts on Lucien Favre…

If Cook is right and Palace are just getting the deal over the line, the appointment of Favre could turn out to be a fantastic one for the south London club.

As a manager who has experience in many of Europe’s top leagues, such as the Bundesliga and Ligue 1, he could help Palace build on last their recent bottom-half finishes in the Premier League and potentially turn them into a top-half side.

It remains to be seen whether any issues arise, but everything at the moment is pointing towards Favre’s arrival at Selhurst Park.
