Jose Mourinho has offered his thoughts on Jack Grealish’s future and has hinted that his future might lie away from Aston Villa.

The 25-year-old playmaker had an incredible 2020/21 season in front of goal, scoring seven and contributing with 12 assists in all competitions, helping Villa make remarkable progress on their 2019/20 season and earning himself a place in the England squad for this summer’s European Championships as a result.

Jack Grealish quiz: First up, how old is the Villa captain?

And it’s numbers like that, as well as over the past few years, that have made the England international a target for a number of clubs. Manchester City are believed to be showing a keen interest in him this summer, with Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United having looked his way in previous windows.

And whilst Aston Villa have reportedly said that he is not for sale at any price, speaking on TalkSport, Mourinho hinted that Grealish already has a good idea of what club he would look to join if they ever were to let him go:

“I think he knows where he wants to go. I think he knows the profile of club that will be able to buy him.”

Do you expect clubs to pay a three figure sum for Grealish?

No

When you are being touted for various moves like Grealish has over the years, it’s probably natural to have thought about a move elsewhere, especially when Villa were struggling in 2019/20 and may have needed to sell him if they were relegated.

And if Mourinho is right that he knows what his next move is, then the onus is really on Aston Villa to try and change his mind and persuade him to stay at the club for the foreseeable future. Because whilst they have made some promising signings recently in the form of Emiliano Buendía, the absence of Grealish in the long term might not be the smartest move for them to make.
