Football journalist Fabrizio Romano has been sharing some details on Arsenal midfielder Emile Smith Rowe and his future at the north London club.

This comes after Romano co-hosted a recent edition of the Here We Go Podcast where he spoke about a range of transfer-related topics.

Would you be happy to see Smith-Rowe sign a new deal at Arsenal?

On the subject of Smith Rowe, of whom Arsenal recently turned down a £25 million bid for from fellow Premier League side Aston Villa, Romano had this to say about the player and his future.

He said: “Aston Villa are really in love with this player and they want to try and try again for Smith Rowe, but what I’m told is that he is set to sign his contract with Arsenal.

“Also, before his holidays, he was 100% convinced about going to sign the contract with Arsenal so I expect Smith Rowe to sign soon with Arsenal to extend his contract.”

Smith Rowe, who is a product of Arsenal’s youth system, made his senior debut for the Gunners back in September under former manager Unai Emery.

Since then, the 20-year-old, who is currently valued at £16.2 million, has made 45 appearances for Mikel Arteta’s side across all competitions, in which he has managed to score seven goals and provide seven assists along the way (per Transfermarkt).

TIF Thoughts on Fabrizio Romano’s comments on Smith Rowe…

Given how Arsenal have turned down Villa’s bid for Smith Rowe and intend on offering him a new deal according to Romano, this shows just how much they want to keep him at the north London club and how important he is to them.

Who scored the opening goal in Liverpool's 4-3 win over at Anfield in September?

Also, with Arteta previously saying that he feels Smith Rowe has “earned the right to look at” the situation regarding a new contract because of his performances for the club this season, this proves just how highly valued the Englishman is at the club.

In our view, if Smith Rowe does end up signing a new deal at Arsenal and continues to be a useful player in front of goal for them, then this could be a very important bit of business from the club for the future.
