Arsenal insider Charles Watts has provided an update on the contract situation surrounding Emile Smith Rowe.

The 20-year-old had something of a breakout season in 2020/21, making 33 appearances in all competitions after a few years of being on the fringes of the team making cameo appearances, scoring four goals and chipping in with eight assists along the way.

He was something of a bright spark in an otherwise disappointing season for the Gunners, and he looked set to be rewarded for his efforts, as a report in The Daily Mail back in January claimed that he was set to be offered a new deal, but he has yet to put pen-to-paper on it.

Speaking during a Q&A on his channel though, Watts seemed to suggest that there was nothing for Arsenal fans to worry about and that he was confident that a deal would be agreed at some point in the near future:

“I’m convinced he will sign a new contract. I’d be very, very surprised if he doesn’t. He’s an Arsenal boy, he’s playing regularly, he’s going to have a big part to play next season, Arsenal love him.

“I just think it’ll be a matter of time before that contract gets signed, I can’t imagine there’s going to be too many issues with that one.”

TIF Thoughts on Charles Watts’ comments about Emile Smith Rowe…

This news should come as great relief to Arsenal fans, because one of the good things to come out of last season was the influx of youth players with the likes of Smith Rowe as well as Bukayo Saka offering them something to look forward to during the next few years at the club, and a new contract would be richly deserved for his efforts.

You just hope that with a new contract, his playing time continues to increase as well, because with Arsenal set to go through a major overhaul this summer with players leaving, that should mean more opportunities for him to become a key part of the team rather than just another member of it.
