Former West Brom midfielder Carlton Palmer says he would happily take Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle back at the Hawthorns.

Gayle, 30, spent the 2018/19 season on loan at West Brom and thoroughly impressed. During that spell, he scored 24 goals in the Championship before returning to his parent club.

He is now being linked with a return to the Baggies, though the Sunday Mirror (via Birmingham Live) reported that he was a target specifically identified by Chris Wilder.

Would you welcome Gayle back to the Hawthorns?

Of course!

Of course!

No

No

With someone else set for the Hawthorns dugout next season, though, that interest may have cooled. Whatever the case, Palmer believes Gayle would be a terrific addition.

“He’s certainly got goals in him in that league, for sure, certainly got plenty of goals in him in that league,” the ex-West Brom player exclusively told TIF.

“If you’re going to get promoted, you’ve got to get 87, 88 points, so you’re going to need goals. Gayle will get goals in that league all day long.”

It is not just West Brom where Gayle boasts a prolific Championship record. While the English forward has not quite been able to do it in the Premier League for Newcastle, he managed to score 23 times for them in the second division back in the 2016/17 campaign.

So, regardless of who is in charge, Gayle looks like he would be a brilliant addition to West Brom’s squad.
