It’s bad news after bad news at the minute for Sheffield Wednesday with their current financial issues, causing the club problems off the pitch after a poor season on it as well…

Chief football writer for the Yorkshire Post, Stuart Rayner, has suggested in the most recent episode of the ‘FootballTalk‘ podcast that there is ‘talk’ of players being owed £12m as the threat of yet another points deduction looms over the football club.

“Hopefully, a way can be found around this that doesn’t involve another points deduction. That’s obviously not what we want, but it may come to that. Something needs to be done.

“You just worry about Sheffield Wednesday at the moment, you know, there’s this talk that – and none of these numbers have been verified, so we don’t know – but there’s this talk that now £12m is collectively owed to the players. That’s a heck of a lot of money for a League One club.

“They just seem to be lurching from one financial problem to the next, which is, you know, no great surprise in these times.”

TIF thoughts on the Sheffield Wednesday financial situation…

It looks like really worrying times for the Owls…

As Rayner alludes to, with the current financial situation in the world due to the pandemic, it would’ve been some kind of miracle for the EFL to have no clubs massively hit by it but you’d hope that the footballing authorities are being understanding and doing everything they can to help the Owls.

Wednesday’s season was not a good one both on and off the field. Relegated to League One on the final day of the season, and their financial issues which saw them receive a six-point deduction, have followed them into League One. The Owls will hope for an upturn in fortunes sooner rather than later but with players reportedly still unpaid, something needs to be done.
