Sheffield United fans have been responding on Twitter to a report suggesting that the Blades are interested in Stoke City midfielder Sam Clucas.

This comes as Sheffield United news account ‘The Bladesman’ tweeted, citing journalist Alan Nixon, who suggested that Sheffield United, Nottingham Forest, Blackburn and Millwall are all interested in signing the 30-year-old.

The tweet gathered attention from Sheffield United fans, who weren’t shy to let their feelings be known regarding the transfer rumour…

Judging by the replies, Sheffield United fans don’t seem to be impressed with this rumour but why not? Though there are arguments that at 30, Sheffield United should be targeting someone younger, Clucas is an experienced Championship player and would reportedly be a free transfer due to Stoke’s reported financial issues meaning that getting Clucas’ wage off their books may be helpful for The Potters.

The Blades will most likely be looking for midfielders this summer after the departure of John Lundstram, and with reports linking Sander Berge with a move away, it looks like Clucas could be a realistic target. New manager Slavisa Jokanovic took over at Bramall Lane in May and is waiting to make his first signing for Sheffield United.

According to Transfermarkt, the Stoke midfielder, who is versatile and can also play both left-back and left midfield, got 2 goals and 3 assists for The Potters in 24 Championship appearances for them this season. The Englishman joined Stoke in 2018 from Swansea City on a four-year-deal worth around £6m.

Blades fans, would you take Sam Clucas?
