Norwich Talk’s Ben Ambrose has said during a recent podcast that reported Canaries target Billy Gilmour ‘would be perfect’ for the club.

Reports suggest that Norwich City are close to signing the young Scottish midfielder on loan from Chelsea, with The Guardian claiming that ‘several Premier League clubs are interested’ in Gilmour, with Carrow Road his most likely destination.

Ambrose thinks it’ll be a ‘perfect’ signing for the Canaries, saying

“I’ve tried this on FM [Football Manager], sort of the, dare I say, deep-lying playmaker as the 10. I think that could be very rigid, practical in the Premier League. It depends who fills that role, I guess. I think Billy Gilmour would be perfect for that.

“Because in that role, you wouldn’t really need that much physicality. You just need someone who’s going to carry the ball, someone who’s comfortable on the ball, someone who’s got a bit of passing range.”

TIF Thoughts on Billy Gilmour to Norwich…

Gilmour has impressed since bursting onto the scene in 2020. The youngster won the Man of the Match award on his Premier League debut during a 4-0 win against Everton and also impressed during the European Championships, winning the same award for his performance in the 0-0 draw against England, his only game at the tournament.

The 20-year-old is looking for a move to gain more first-team experience after only featuring in the Premier League five times for the Blues this season.

Gilmour can play in any role in central midfield and could therefore be a useful addition for Norwich, who had been hoping to acquire Oliver Skipp after the Spurs star impressed on loan at the Canaries during their Championship winning season this year but in Gilmour, Norwich may have found an alternative.

With the Scot receiving plenty of praise over the last few days, having a ready-made international to help the club’s cause as they look to stay in the top flight next season will surely be a fine addition to the squad if they can get a deal over the line.
