Leeds United journalist Phil Hay has been sharing the latest details concerning Whites full-back Ezgjan Alioski and his current contract situation.

This comes after Hay made a return to The Athletic’s The Phil Hay Show after taking a break for health reasons to talk about a range of topics concerning Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

Leeds' all-time top Premier League goalscorer is Mark Viduka but how many did he score?

On the subject of Alioski, whose current contract is set to expire in the coming days, Hay had this to say about the situation after Leeds reportedly offered him a new deal back in May.

He said: “They are still in contact, and the offer is still on the table, but I don’t think Leeds are minded to increase it.

“I think they feel like they’ve made him a fair offer, which kind of reflects his ability and reflects his valuation and where he’s at in his career.

“Alioski, or Alioski’s camp, have given the impression that he does have other offers, and he does have alternatives and they haven’t taken the contract proposal from Leeds as yet.

“So, I think at the moment, I would sway a little bit towards Alioski going elsewhere, but for as long as the option of staying is in front of him, you can never say never.”

Leeds signed Alioski back in the 2017 summer transfer window from FC Lugano. Since then, the 29-year-old, who is currently valued at £4.5 million, has gone on to make 171 appearances for the Yorkshire club across all competitions in which he has managed to score 22 goals and provide 19 assists along the way (per Transfermarkt).

TIF Thoughts on Phil Hay’s comments on Alioski’s contract situation…

With North Macedonia now out of Euro 2020 and with Alioski’s contract set to run out at the end of the month, it feels that now is the time where a decision will be made about his future and whether he will sign a new deal with Leeds or move on.

Are you confident Alioski will sign a new deal at Leeds?

No

In our view, if Alioski does indeed end up leaving Elland Road this summer, then the club will have to make sure they bring in someone to replace him considering how only three players made more Premier League appearances last season than the versatile defender.
