Signing the ‘unbelievable’ Matheus Pereira would be a ‘no-brainer’ for Leeds this summer, according to Joe Wainman during the JustJoe Football Show.
This comes following a report from TeamTalk suggesting that the West Brom star will be available for £15 million, which seems like a steal for the Brazilian, who impressed during his first season in the Premier League this season but was unable to prevent the baggies from being relegated back to the Championship.
Discussing the Brazilian during his JustJoe Football Show, Wainman spoke of his admiration for the Brazilian, admitting that he was impressed with him prior to his permanent move to the Baggies.
“I remember in the Championship, I think it was January when they confirmed that deal and signed him long term. If you remember, they only had him on loan initially.
“And I remember back in the Championship saying this guy is unbelievable. It’s a little bit disappointing that they have him on such a deal.
“If you’re looking at the relegated clubs – Pereira is the one. I look at Matheus Pereira and I keep thinking towards the back end of the season, when Tyler Roberts was playing as regularly as he was and he was missing a lot of chances and not playing key passes and keeping on to the ball at certain times when he should have moved it on, if you were to replace him during them games with Matheus Pereira… It’s a no brainer for me.
“Matheus Pereira get it done, man. Get it done.”
TIF Thoughts on Matheus Pereira to Leeds…
Pereira certainly impressed in his first season in the Premier League, and £15 million seems like a bargain for a player of his calibre. It would therefore be a surprise if there weren’t many top-flight clubs with their eye on him.
The Brazilian finished the season with a WhoScored rating of 6.96, after scoring 11 goals and getting six assists, with Pereira’s goal involvements amounting to almost 50% of Baggies goals this season, with one of his best performances coming in a 5-2 win for West Brom against 10-man Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, where Pereira scored a brace.
Patrick Bamford is the only player in the Leeds squad to have scored more league goals than Pereira this season and with his rumoured price being £15 million, there is little doubt it would be a good move for Leeds.
