Leeds United journalist Beren Cross has been speaking on a Facebook Live video for Leeds Live to discuss all things related to the Yorkshire club.

One topic of discussion was the expected departure of defender Oliver Casey with the 20-year-old expected to sign for Blackpool in the coming days.

Would a move be a good decision for Casey?

Yes

Yes

No

No

According to Cross, the defender is set to sign for the Tangerines on a three-year deal following their promotion to the Championship from League One.

Discussing the youngster’s expected departure from the Yorkshire club, Cross had the following to say.

So it’s going to be a massive chance for him and like you say, three years is a huge sign of faith. So that’s not like it’s a one year and then if you don’t make it, you’re out, he’s got three years there to bed in and to develop and to try and make a home for himself.”

“But from what I understand they’ve [Leeds] not made it difficult, they’ve not played hardball. And yeah, they’ve basically allowed him to move on.

“So we’re expecting that to get done probably tomorrow, if not the next day. From what I’ve been told, it’s all pretty much done. It’s literally just formalities now.”

TIF Thoughts on Casey’s expected move…

The 20-year-old has featured prominently for the Leeds U23 side in Premier League 2 Division 2 which saw the Whites get their hands on the title.

Casey made 21 appearances in Premier League 2 Division 2 during the 2020/21 campaign in which he racked up an impressive total of 1571 minutes (via Transfermarkt).

Although Casey has impressed in the U23 side, Diego Llorente, Liam Cooper, Robin Koch, Pascal Struijk all lie in his way of a spot in Marcelo Bielsa’s XI so we think a move away could be the best option for him to progress his development.
