Leeds United journalist Beren Cross has been speaking on a Facebook Live video for Leeds Live to discuss potential transfer dealings ahead of the summer window.

One name which the journalist discussed was the Hertha Berlin forward Matheus Cunha regarding a potential move to the Yorkshire club, having been linked by German publication SportBILD (via Leeds Live).

Would Cunha be a good buy for Leeds?

No

The Brazilian forward has been linked with a move to Leeds and according to reports from Germany, he would likely cost Marcelo Bielsa’s side in the region of £34.5m.

In his 27 Bundesliga appearances for Hertha BSC this season, Cunha was able to find the back of the net on seven occasions and provided six assists (via Transfermarkt).

Discussing a potential summer swoop for the 22-year-old, Cross had the following to say.

Cunha, yeah I mean I think anybody that’s done a basic level of analysis or read some of the stuff around Cunha will know that he’s a bit like [Rodrigo] De Paul, really, he’s a very exciting footballer – he’s got a lot going for him.

“There’s a lot in his profile which would suggest he would fit Leeds United’s model.

“But from what I’ve been told, he’s on a long list rather than a shortlist. He’s somebody that they are aware of and they do like but as I’ve said, I think half of Europe is interested as well, and I think his price, if he does move, will skyrocket.”

TIF Thoughts on a Leeds swoop for Cunha…

Cunha has been one of the few bright sparks in Hertha’s squad over the course of the last two seasons, which have seen the Berlin-based club fight relegation for large periods.

The 22-year-old returned decent numbers during the 2020/21 Bundesliga campaign, and he has shown over the course of his short stint at Hertha he has the potential to play at a higher level, with 20 goal involvements in his 38 Bundesliga appearances (via Transfermarkt).

Going by the reports to surface, it suggests Cunha is worth more to Hertha than his market valuation, which could prove a problem for Leeds if they are to approach the Bundesliga side to sign the Brazilian.
