Speaking on a Facebook Live video for Leeds Live, journalist Beren Cross provided an interesting update on the future of Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa.

The Argentine manager has held the reins at Leeds since 2018 but his contract is set to expire at the end of this month (via Transfermarkt).

Will Leeds finish in a European spot next season?

However, it has been strongly reported that Bielsa is willing to commit his future to the Yorkshire club and is set to sign an extended deal.

Bielsa has managed the Whites back into the Premier League after a 16-year absence and saw his side to a ninth-place finish in the 2020/21 campaign.

Discussing the club’s plans for transfers this season, Cross had the following to say on the latest in Bielsa’s contract negotiations.

“I think the big advantage they’ve got this year is that they knew what division they were going to be in. And we know that Bielsa is fully engaged with staying at Leeds United, we know he’s going to be sticking around next season now.

“It’s just a formality, really, and waiting for the paperwork to go through.”

TIF Thoughts on Bielsa’s future…

It was a stunning first season back in the English top-flight for the Whites as they finished above the established Premier League side, Everton.

The Whites only finished three points off seventh-placed Tottenham Hotspur, who earned themselves a spot playing European football next term – which should provide Leeds with a great deal of confidence going into next season.

With this in mind, we think it is imperative for Leeds’ success that Bielsa stays and at the same time, we think there is no better place than Leeds for Bielsa at the moment given his reputation with the fans in particular.
