Former Leeds United midfielder David Norris believes that Paulo Gazzaniga would be an upgrade on Kiko Casilla.

The 34-year-old still has more than two years remaining on his Elland Road deal but having made just three Premier League appearances last season, Leeds could be looking to freshen up their goalkeeping department.

Casilla is one of their highest earners at present, whilst Gazzaniga is available on a free transfer having been released by Tottenham earlier this month.

Gazzaniga, already a full international with Argentina, spent the second half of last season on loan at Elche in La Liga after failing to make a single first-team appearance in north London in 2020/21 prior to his move.

But the former Southampton shot-stopper provided solid cover for the injured Hugo Lloris in 2019-2020, and has shown his ability to perform at Premier League level with several good performances during that year.

And Norris told This is Futbol that Gazzaniga would be a slightly better option to be Illan Meslier’s back up at present:

“I think just where they’re both at, I think he would be a slight upgrade.”
