La Liga expert Euan McTear claims that Yangel Herrera could thrive in a settled Leeds United side if he makes the move to Elland Road this summer.

Leeds have been linked with a potential swoop for the 23-year-old, who is technically still on the books at Manchester City.

West Ham United are also said to be interested but Leeds’ desire to bring in a midfielder could see them swoop for Herrera.

He has been on loan at Spanish club Granada since 2019 and enjoyed a fantastic season in 2020/21, making 46 appearances in all competitions.

Granada were forced to chop and change their side regularly given their participation in the Europa League, but Herrera was an important member of the squad as the plucky underdogs reached the quarter-finals of the competition, eventually losing to Manchester United.

A defensive midfielder who can also play in central midfield, Herrera is valued at £16.2m by Transfermarkt and McTear feels that a move to a side with a settled starting XI, like Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds, could well see him thrive.

Speaking exclusively to This Is Futbol, he said: “He was so good even when he didn’t get that opportunity to be in a settled side last year.

“Granada didn’t have the squad for playing European football so to be playing twice a week in this congested season, having to go through the qualifying rounds, their team was getting changed by two or three players every week.

“He was one of the few consistent players other than the goalkeeper and the centre-backs so just the fact that he was so good, even in an unsettled side, logically you’d think if he had some time, it could only be a good thing.”
