Marcelo Bielsa will be disappointed after losing out on Rodrigo De Paul, says former Leeds United midfielder David Norris.

De Paul is set to play at the Wanda Metropolitano with Atletico Madrid this upcoming season after the Spanish club struck a €35m (£30m) deal with Udinese.

Leeds’ interest in the Argentina international stretches all the way back to the last summer transfer window, with The Guardian previously reporting that Bielsa was very keen on bringing in his compatriot for the 2020/21 season.

It is not to be, however, and Norris believes the Leeds boss will be gutted with what has happened.

“I think he’s got to be disappointed,” the ex-Whites star exclusively told TIF. “It’s gone on that long, the player initially wanted to really come, Leeds were really interested in him and his play seemed to fit Leeds’ style. He must be disappointed.”

Given how long Leeds were interested in the midfielder, it would come as no surprise if Bielsa was indeed disappointed.

As well as in midfield, the Whites also appear to be keen on strengthening out wide.

They continue to be linked with a move for Wolves winger Adama Traore, though that looks like it could be more of a Victor Orta target given he knows his countryman well from their time at Middlesbrough, bringing him to the club back in 2016.
