Huddersfield Town have been very active with transfers this window already, having signed four free agents, but one of them is a ‘big gamble’ according to Chief Football Writer for the Yorkshire Post, Stuart Rayner, on the most recent edition of the FootballTalk podcast.

Carlos Corberan’s side have not been messing around this summer with the arrival of four fresh faces but the signing of Jordan Rhodes ‘stands separately’ to Rayner as a ‘big gamble.’

Rhodes returned to Huddersfield this summer after being released by Sheffield Wednesday having spent four years with the Owls, after signing in 2017 for a fee of around £10.5 million (as per Transfermarkt), but Rayner believes that the signing is a ‘big gamble’ for the Terriers.

“I think the one that sort of stands separately in my mind is Jordan Rhodes, who’s signed as a free agent after being released by Sheffield Wednesday. I think that’s a big gamble by them.

“But obviously Huddersfield fans know full well what they can get out of Jordan Rhodes if they can rediscover that magic that was once there.

“I think it’s a gamble because although he’s coming on a free transfer, he’s going to be coming on hefty wages and we know that money’s tight at Huddersfield Town at the moment and that they’re running things accordingly.”

TIF Thoughts on Jordan Rhodes’ move to Huddersfield Town…

During his previous stint at Huddersfield town between 2009 and 2012, Rhodes managed 86 goals and 14 assists in 147 appearances in all competitions for the Terriers.

Although you’d hope that Huddersfield haven’t re-signed Rhodes, who is on big wages, for nostalgic reasons alone, it can be seen why Huddersfield were willing to re-sign the 31-year-old, as if he can rediscover the goalscoring form that we perhaps did not see too often at Sheffield Wednesday, they’ve got a real player on their hands.

Huddersfield finished just six points above the relegation zone in the Championship last term and will be hoping that Rhodes is an inspired signing which turns their fortunes and helps them climb the table next season.
