TalkSport pundit Simon Jordan has stressed the importance that Burnley manage to keep hold of Sean Dyche for the sake of their Premier League survival.
The 49-year-old, having just finished his ninth season in charge at Turf Moor, has found himself linked with a move away from the club this summer, with Crystal Palace reportedly showing an interest following the departure of Roy Hodgson at the end of the campaign.
During his time at Burnley, he has managed to turn them from a team that initially bounced back and forth between the Premier League and Championship, into a solid team in the top flight, and even managing to take them into Europe along the way, a very remarkable feat for a club that tends not to spend big money in the transfer window.
And speaking on TalkSport, Jordan felt that given the takeover of the club that took place in December and the uncertainty that could bring, it remained vital to the future of the club that they kept Dyche in charge moving forward:
“At this moment in time, I think Burnley’s in a precarious position, the way that club’s been bought by these owners with other people’s money. What’s keeping them in this division is Sean Dyche’s management, alongside the backing that Sean gets, but that backing would get a lot of managers relegated – it doesn’t get Sean relegated. He’s the glue.
“It’s a difficult one because Sean does have the run of the land, if he decided that he wanted to go and talk to people and have a different discussion and put himself available, and run around like lots of managers do, people like Marco Silva did and Gary Rowett did that bat their eyes at anybody who shows them any interest. He could do that and probably still be welcomed back with open arms at Burnley because he is the glue.”

Jordan is absolutely right here in his assessment, with the transformation under Dyche under strict financial conditions a real testament to what he can do as a manager, and why other clubs would want to show an interest in him to begin with.
With Dyche reportedly set to sign a new deal imminently, there had better be enough incentives, especially in the transfer window, to convince him to stay, because there’s nothing to stop other clubs coming to get him in the future.
If Dyche goes, and the person brought in to replace him isn’t up to scratch, there’s not a lot of wiggle room left before they veer into the territory of likely relegation candidates.
