A lot of Newcastle United fans have taken to Twitter to provide their thoughts at Jeff Stelling’s latest comments on Twitter regarding their proposed takeover bid.

There were rumours circulating last year suggesting a potential Saudi Arabia based takeover for the Tyneside club.

However, the consortium reportedly withdrew its bid amid issues with the Premier League and an ‘unforeseen prolonged process’.

Do you think the 'big six' helped stop the NUFC takeover?

On Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday, Stelling and Paul Merson were discussing the proposed takeover bid and how the Premier League’s ‘big six’ clubs could have had an influence on it happening.

Stelling said (relayed by The Chronicle): “This is the public investment fund of Saudi Arabia, who were effectively blocked – a lot of the fans believe, and I don’t know whether this is a Machiavellian plot, but the big six could have played a part in having this blocked because they don’t want to see Newcastle as another rival.

“And maybe what happened with the European Super League with those six, it’s not so daft. Who knows?”

Newcastle fans flocked to the tweet from The Chronicle who relayed the quotes from Stelling to show their frustration as the presenter hinted at the Toon Army’s theory potentially being correct.

“Exactly this!”

“Gotta be joking..”

Newcastle's all-time top Premier League goalscorer is Alan Shearer but how many goals did he score for the club?

The Magpies look to have all but secured Premier League survival as they sit nine points clear of 18th-placed Fulham with just four games remaining of the 2020/21 campaign.

It is clear from the reaction of these Newcastle fans that they were pleased to have their beliefs noticed and not shut down by Stelling, however, it will not have lessened their frustration.
