Fans of Newcastle United have been reacting on Twitter after a post revealed the club has announced a start date for next the 2021/22 pre-season ahead of Steve Bruce’s third campaign at the helm.

It’s been a tough campaign for the Magpies, who suffered a serious post-Christmas slump which saw them win just two games in 18 at one stage of the season.

The St James’ Park outfit’s terrible run of form led to supporters protesting against Bruce and owner Mike Ashley, but a remarkable turnaround in recent weeks has eased the pressure on the 60-year-old boss.

With Newcastle’s Premier League status now looking more secure than ever, talk has turned to next season, and The Chronicle are reporting that players will already be back in pre-season training in less than eight weeks.

A start date of the 14th of August for the 2021/22 campaign means there’s a shorter turnaround caused by the knock-on effects of the pandemic, but the prospect of a third year under Bruce’s tutelage has evidently angered large sections of the fanbase.

“SB may be bold as brass but surely its time for him to tend the roses at the end of the season, before the fans are back in the stadium!”
