On the latest edition of The View from The Lane podcast, James Maw has been talking about all things related to Tottenham Hotspur following the conclusion of the 2020/21 campaign.

Spurs ended their Premier League season with an impressive 4-2 win over top-four chasing Leicester City.

Do you want Bale back at Spurs for next season?

No

However, it was Gareth Bale’s comments following the game which caught the attention regarding his future ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Welsh winger will now return to Real Madrid ahead of the conclusion of his season-long loan at the Lilywhites.

Although his future remains unclear, Maw was keen to address suggestions the 31-year-old may have been hinting at potentially retiring following his comments.

He said (9:02): “I’ve seen the suggestion that means he’s going to retire after the Euros and quite what Real Madrid will make of that given he’s got another year on his contract, I’m not so sure.

“I mean, they might be happy with it if he’s walking away from the money. But from things we’ve heard before, he wasn’t willing to walk away from that contract without payment.”

TIF Thoughts on Bale’s future…

The Welshman had a strange loan spell at Tottenham this season. Under Jose Mourinho, Bale struggled for game time, however, when the winger was given the opportunity he certainly proved his worth (via Transfermarkt).

Bale ended the 2020/21 Premier League campaign with 11 goals and two assists in just 20 appearances for the north London club. To put that into perspective, Bale averaged a league goal every 84 minutes which is the best of any player.

We think Spurs should be doing everything they can to get Bale back for next season. The specifics of the deal will obviously be important, however, with just one year left on his deal at Madrid, reports suggest his future does not lie in Spain.
