Journalist Tony Haggerty has been speaking on the latest edition of A Celtic State of Mind podcast to discuss all things related to the Parkhead side ahead of this summer’s transfer window.

Celtic ended their 2020/21 Scottish Premiership campaign as runners up to city rivals Rangers and currently remain without a permanent manager.

Is Eddie Howe the right man for Celtic?

Former manager Neil Lennon was sacked back in February bringing an end to his second tenure with the Bhoys.

John Kennedy took interim charge of the Parkhead side until the end of the season with a number of managers being linked with the role on a permanent basis.

One name in particular which has become the standout favourite to get the job with Celtic is the former AFC Bournemouth boss, Eddie Howe.

Discussing Howe’s potential arrival at Parkhead, Haggerty had the following to say (7:51):

Bournemouth’s defeat to Brentford in the play-offs on Saturday seems to have accelerated that process.

“So a key part of this deal is now the arrival possibly of Stephen Purches and Simon Weatherstone who was Eddie Howe’s backroom team at Bournemouth.

“There seems to be this big summer rebuild planned, obviously, and they’re in the frame to be joining Eddie Howe. I think Dominic McKay wants to kind of introduce them all together.”

TIF Thoughts on Howe’s future…

The 43-year-old certainly seems to be the favourite to get the job at Celtic if reports are to be believed and it appears he is trying to secure his former backroom staff members before confirming the switch.

It will be a huge change for Howe having managed a relatively small club in Bournemouth to then making the enormous step up to Celtic, however, with a reported rebuild on the cards he would be able to put his stamp on the side.

Although Celtic fans may be frustrated at still not having a new manager, we think Howe is going about the situation in the right way to give himself every chance of succeeding by wanting to work with familiar faces.
