In an exclusive interview with This is Futbol, former Derby County manager Paul Jewell has claimed that he can’t see Rafa Benitez being appointed as Celtic’s new manager.

The former Newcastle United manager was hotly tipped to take over from Neil Lennon earlier this year, however, the likes of Eddie Howe and Roy Keane appear to be further advanced in talks.

Should Celtic go for Benitez?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

Benitez has publicly claimed that he is ready to return to management and would like a return back to the Premier League after he left the Magpies to manage in China for two seasons.

Speaking on why he can’t see Benitez as Celtic’s new manager and what might persuade him to take the job, Jewell exclusively told This is Futbol:

I can’t see him there but I could see him wanting to take on [Steven] Gerrard at Rangers, but I don’t think Celtic would be Rafa’s cup of tea.

“He’s obviously a huge football man that wants to be back in at the sharp end and if he went to a club like Celtic or Rangers he would certainly be at that sharp end.”

Celtic fans, can you get 8/8 on this quiz on forgotten players? First up: who is this?

Benitez left Newcastle at the end of his contract after several years of fighting with Mike Ashley over spending money and ways in which the Spaniard wanted to improve the club.

Howe, who appears to be the likely next manager, is reportedly waiting until the summer to decide on any potential jobs that he has been offered.
