Pundit Paul John Dykes has recently made a worrying claim about Peter Lawwell and his future at Celtic.

Dykes was hosting the latest episode of the ‘A Celtic State of Mind’ podcast and the panel talked about multiple issues involving the Hoops. Dykes gave his views about Peter Lawwell, saying that he fears the fact that the club’s CEO may stay at Celtic beyond his retirement in another role.

It was announced that Lawwell is set to retire from his position as the club’s CEO in the summer and Dominic McKay is set to take over as well, having arrived early at Parkhead.

Dykes revealed that he has previously been told to be happy with Lawwell and he was also told that the fans should be thankful to the current CEO.

The pundit claimed (32:54): “I’m going to give you another wee insight into the club’s attitude all around that because when I brought that up, the fact that we were unhappy with the running of the club, I was told that ‘You should be thankful. Imagine you had one of the other custodians of this club, you should be thankful that you’ve got Peter Lawwell’.

“I think that is the attitude in the highest reaches of this club and that’s why I suggested maybe a week or two ago – what if he is still at Celtic in a different capacity, having overseen the capitulation of Celtic this season?”

TIF Thoughts on Lawwell…

Lawwell was the target of protests from the Celtic fans many weeks ago. The fans had even protested against the whole of the Celtic board and Neil Lennon. It shows that Lawwell isn’t a popular character amongst the club’s fans, but he’s worked at the club for many years now and has the experience of dealing with it too.

Celtic fans, can you get 8/8 on this quiz on forgotten players? First up: who is this?

Celtic are undergoing a transition in the summer and they may need that experience in some ways. So if Lawwell does stay in another capacity without influencing any decisions, perhaps that may smooth the club’s transition.
