Journalist Scott McDermott thinks that Rangers should consider selling Glen Kamara this summer.

The 25-year-old Finland international has been a prominent member of Steven Gerrard’s side since he joined in the January transfer window of 2019 in a deal worth just £50k, making 106 appearances in that time and playing a key part in Rangers’ title-winning campaign this season.

He shielded the defence by averaging 1 tackle, 0.9 interceptions and 0.5 blocks per game (via WhoScored), ensuring they conceded just 13 goals all season, it’s no surprise to see that a number of English Premier League sides have reportedly shown an interest.

Tore André Flo is Rangers club-record signing, but how much was he bought for?

And speaking on the Record Rangers podcast, McDermott thinks that now might be the time for the club to cash in on him:

“I think with Kamara it’s because they’ll feel as if they’ve got decent cover in midfield at the moment. I know they’ve had a few injuries recently, but they’ve got decent cover in there and as much as I love Kamara as a player, they paid £50k for him, they will feel that if they can get upwards of £7/8m for him, what a bit a business that would be.

“He’s probably the type that they look at and think ‘we could go and get another similar type of player for less money.’”

TIF Thoughts on Scott McDermott’s comments on Glen Kamara…

Would you sell Kamara if the club were to receive a good offer?

Yes

Yes

No

No

It is worth noting that a recent report from The Daily Mail suggested that Rangers have put a price tag of £10m on Kamara if anyone were to try and buy him.

So McDermott’s proposal could get even better if they can get that sort of money, but either way, it is still a rather impressive return for their initial investment if they can get that sort of money.

And if they can get a similar sort of player for a lot less, then that would really help the club in being able to spread the money out elsewhere. And with this season set to bring on a different set of demands, such as a potential Champions League run, then the extra bodies could come in really helpful to them.
