Speaking exclusively to This Is Futbol, former Rangers defender Michael Ball believes Britt Assombalonga would find it too hard to turn down his old side this summer.

Assombalonga is set to leave Middlesbrough on a free transfer at the end of the season when his contract expires and is currently being linked with a move to Rangers.

According to The Athletic (via Nottingham Forest News), the Glasgow giants are keen on the 28-year-old, though they face competition from a number of other clubs, including Nottingham Forest.

Tore André Flo is Rangers club-record signing, but how much was he bought for?

Ball, however, is backing his former team to see off all other suitors, confident that Assombalonga would not say no to their advances.

On the speculation that the striker could arrive at Ibrox this summer, Ball told TIF:

The opportunity for him to play for a fantastic football club like Rangers, it‘s something he won’t be turning down. It is the type of player Rangers should be targeting if they want to keep moving forward, improving year on year.”

Assombalonga has hardly been prolific this season, but his overall goalscoring record in the Championship makes for good reading.

He scored 14 league goals in the 2018/19 campaign and another 15 the year prior, so he could be a decent bet for Rangers.
