Ex-Rangers star Michael Ball has told This Is Futbol that Steven Gerrard will stay at the club for at least another season in a bid to prove that this campaign hasn’t been a fluke.

Rangers have been in unbelievable form this season and are currently 20 points clear of second-placed Celtic with just three games of the season remaining.

Gerrard’s men have yet to lose in the league, winning 29 games and drawing six.

Do you think Gerrard could interest a few Premier League clubs?

Yes, he has done enough to earn that interest

No, he has won nothing

No, he has won nothing

He has seen his side score 81 goals and concede a mere 12; if they win the remainder of their games, they will finish with 102 points, a truly staggering haul.

Such a haul has not been managed since 2016/17, when Celtic swept all before them to rack up 106 points in an unbeaten season of their own.

There is still an Old Firm game to navigate, which comes on Sunday, and Ball believes that even finishing the season unbeaten would not see Gerrard’s job done at Ibrox.

Indeed, the ex-Liverpool star has been tipped for the Tottenham Hotspur job after they sacked Jose Mourinho, and Ball believes he will want to go again next season and prove his worth once more, thus opening the door to a bigger opportunity.

He told TIF: “I feel Steven might want to stay at least another year, just to prove that it wasn’t just a one-hit wonder, he can kick on again, make the gap bigger between them and Celtic and push for a good run in Europe.

“I think when he’s done that it’ll be proven that he’s a top manager, a top coach. He’s got a fantastic set-up with his backroom staff that he puts a lot of faith in.

“I feel he’ll probably want to stay another year at least and win as much as he can, and then he’ll probably open the door to bigger opportunities.”
