Speaking exclusively to This Is Futbol, former Premier League midfielder Lee Hendrie has backed Celtic to see off competition for Charlie Wyke this summer.

Wyke has been in incredible form this season, reaching the 30-goal mark in all competitions for Sunderland.

He is now being linked with a move away from the Wearside club as his contract runs down, with Championship outfits Cardiff City and Middlesbrough two sides said to be interested in his services.

Celtic fans, can you get 8/8 on this quiz on forgotten players? First up: who is this?

However, according to former Celtic defender Mark Wilson, the Bhoys are also keen on the 28-year-old.

Based on the above, there is set to be a lot of competition for Wyke’s signature, but Hendrie is backing Celtic to see off all other suitors if they do indeed enter the race for the player.

On the Glasgow club’s apparent interest in Wyke, the ex-Aston Villa player told TIF:

“If you had to put the two clubs [Middlesbrough & Celtic] together, I’m pretty sure he’ll be looking at Celtic. I mean, that’d be a massive, massive signing, a massive move for him.

Celtic have got a big rebuild structure that they have to do. I watched the game against Rangers and they were miles off it. The difference from Celtic to Rangers is just outrageous at the moment.”

Based on his goalscoring record this season, Wyke looks a no-brainer on a free transfer, especially if Celtic end up losing Odsonne Edouard in the next transfer window.
