Frank McAvennie has exclusively told This is Futbol that he’s unsure whether Leigh Griffiths will still be at Celtic next season.

Griffiths has been a key man for the Hoops in recent seasons but has been restricted to a bit-part role this time around, and hasn’t started in the Scottish Premiership since the end of January.

Despite his lack of opportunities, the Scotland striker has still managed seven goals and two assists in just nine starts in all competitions, although he’s currently on an 11-match drought since netting against Hamilton more than three months ago.

But Griffiths’ deal at Parkhead runs out this summer, and recent reports believe that the two parties are expected to meet in the coming weeks to discuss his future.

He’s previously been linked to join Scott Brown at Aberdeen, whilst Premierships rivals Hibs have also been touted as a potential destination for the 30-year-old.

Celtic have an option to extend his contract by 12 months, but McAvennie whilst believes Griffiths is the best finisher at Parkhead, told This is Futbol the club cannot rely on him anymore:

Celtic fans, can you get 8/8 on this quiz on forgotten players? First up: who is this?

“I don’t know if he’s been offered new terms, but for me he’s the best finisher, but he’s not done enough.

“I think Griff might want to move on, but they can’t rely on Griff.

“I would keep him all day long, but I don’t know what is wrong with him – if there’s anything else that’s a problem, it might just be that he’s fallen out of love with Celtic, but I’ve not spoken to Griff in over a year.”
