Journalist Stephen McGowan has talked about Brendan Rodgers’ exit from Celtic, revealing some details about the former manager’s departure.
McGowan talked about Rodgers on the latest episode of the Go Radio Football Show. He talked about Rodgers’ exit from the club, saying that the ex-Celtic boss wanted more backing from Dermot Desmond and felt that he didn’t get the support that he needed.
Was Rodgers right to demand more backing?
The journalist also stated that Rodgers was in contact with Leicester well before he eventually left the club for the Foxes.
He said: “He was talking to Leicester before that happened. I think he was going anyway, I don’t really know what much he could’ve done.
“Brendan Rodgers has always been quite clear that he feels that he could have been given a different level of backing and he didn’t really get the control that he really wanted at that point.”
TIF Thoughts on Rodgers’ Celtic exit…
It shows that Rodgers’ signings weren’t always excellent and it is easy to understand why the club’s board wasn’t willing to give him a higher backing – though perhaps this is part of the reason he wanted more support.
