Pundit Alan Rough has talked about Scott Brown’s decision to join Aberdeen at the end of the campaign.

Rough appeared on the latest episode of PLZ Soccer’s The Football Show and the panel talked about multiple issues involving Celtic and Scottish football following the latest round of fixtures in the Premiership.

Rough talked about Brown’s decision to join Aberdeen and he made it clear that he’s surprised by the call and he would have liked to see the Scotsman return to Hibernian in the summer.

Brown is set to join Aberdeen on a free transfer and he’ll be the club’s player-coach from next season onwards, plying his trade under former Hibs teammate Stephen Glass. Brown was handed a contract extension by Celtic too.

Rough believes that Aberdeen sold Brown the right sort of project, but he remains surprised about the midfielder’s decision to join the Pittodrie-based club.

He said (27:24): “I have to say I was surprised it was Aberdeen. I’d have went for Hibs. I’d have thought going back to Hibs would’ve been more appeasing to him but obviously, Aberdeen have told him what the future is up there – the new stadium, their new manager, the way they’re going down.

“So it’s an individual decision and Scott’s made that but I have to say, it did take me by surprise that Aberdeen was his choice.”

TIF Thoughts on Brown’s move to Aberdeen…

While returning to Hibs would’ve given Brown the chance to go back to where he began his football career from, Glass was at Hibs from 2003 to 2007 as well and he shared the dressing room with Brown for a long amount of time.

So in a way, the relations that Brown formed at Hibs are helping him now and even though he’s not going back to his former club, he’s reuniting with an ex-teammate anyway. And considering that Celtic did offer him a new deal and he still decided to move on, it is certainly a personal decision from the veteran.
