Pundit Gordon Duncan has been speaking about Everton full-back Seamus Coleman’s link to Celtic from before he signed for the Toffees.

Gordon was hosting the latest episode of Clyde Superscoreboard and the panel talked about numerous issues involving Scottish football. They also talked about Celtic.

Gordon spoke about how Mark Wilson had once told him when the defender was at Parkhead, Coleman had a trial at the club but it turned out to be unsuccessful.

Do Celtic need a player like Coleman right now?

The 32-year-old Irishman Coleman had joined Everton from Sligo Rovers in 2009 for a fee of only £63k. In 2010, the defender did have a brief spell away from the club when he joined Blackpool on a loan deal (as per Transfermarkt).

Gordon talked about Coleman’s Celtic trial and said: “I don’t know how this came up, but Mark Wilson told us recently that when he was Celtic’s right-back, Seamus Coleman came on trial to Celtic and obviously, didn’t sign and became quite good.”

Celtic fans, can you get 8/8 on this quiz on forgotten players? First up: who is this?

TIF Thoughts on Coleman…

During his stint at Goodison Park, Coleman has made 346 appearances in all competitions for Everton while contributing to over 50 goals for the club (as per Transfermarkt).

He’s still going strong, as the Irishman has picked up three assists in 21 Premier League games in the current campaign. That is a reflection of the servant he’s been for the Toffees over the years.

Celtic will see Jonjoe Kenny return to Everton in the summer and Jeremie Frimpong has left already. So having someone like Coleman at the club would be hugely beneficial for the Hoops.
