Journalist John McGarry has recently revealed Kristoffer Ajer’s preference regarding his future.

McGarry appeared on the latest episode of The Celtic Huddle podcast and he was asked about the situation of multiple Celtic players and their futures in Glasgow. One player that he did talk about was Kristoffer Ajer.

Do you see Ajer moving to Newcastle in the summer?

The journalist stated that Ajer’s preference right now is to move to Newcastle as that would allow him more first-team opportunities in the Premier League.

It has been reported in the past that the Magpies are preparing an offer in the region of £8 million to sign Ajer in the summer. The report claimed that Celtic’s bargaining power has been reduced by their willingness to talk to various clubs about Ajer (as per The Daily Mail).

While Milan have previously been linked with a move for the Norwegian too, McGarry thinks that Ajer is sold on the idea of joining the Magpies right now.

He said (12:09): “Kristoffer Ajer seems to be interesting Norwich and Newcastle. From what I gather, his preference is to go to Newcastle because there’s more of a guarantee of first-team football there. He seems to be more sold on that as a club.”

TIF Thoughts on Ajer’s future…

There is clearly quite a bit of interest in Ajer, considering that clubs from England and abroad seem to have a liking for the defender.

Ajer’s current deal at Parkhead runs out in the summer of 2022, which suggests that the upcoming summer window would be Celtic’s best chance of selling him and earning a substantial fee from his sale.

The £3.60m-rated Ajer is now 23 and he’s played regularly for the Bhoys in recent seasons, implying how important he is for the club at a relatively young age. So keeping his importance in mind, the Hoops should earn as much as they can from his sale in the summer.
