Pundit Davie Provan has recently talked about David Turnbull, praising Celtic’s Scottish midfielder.

Provan appeared on the latest episode of the Go Radio Football Show and he talked about numerous issues involving Celtic and Scottish football. He gave his views about Turnbull, while also talking about a potential international call-up for the midfielder.

Provan believes that while Turnbull may not play in the Euros for Scotland, he is good enough to play for the national team in general. The pundit believes that Celtic could’ve played Turnbull earlier in the season, when results weren’t always going their way in the campaign.

Should Celtic have used Turnbull regularly earlier in the season?

Turnbull joined Celtic in the summer of 2020 – about a season after a move had initially fallen through as a result of a failed medical (as per BBC Sport).

Provan feels that Turnbull could be a very important player for Celtic going forward and he has shown maturity beyond his age.

He said (1:24:16): “I don’t think so. But he’s certainly good enough to play for Scotland. There’s a maturity about his game which belies his age. I mean, at 21, he went straight into the Celtic side and he had to wait his chance but the moment he went in, it looked as if he’d been in there for years.

“I think a lot of people were scratching their heads because they weren’t playing particularly well at the front end of the season and I think they could have brought David Turnbull into the side quicker than they did and he is going to be a fabulous player for Celtic going forward.”

TIF Thoughts on Turnbull…

Turnbull has impressed for the Hoops this season, contributing to 12 goals in 31 appearances. Even in the Europa League, he played one game and picked up two goal contributions – one goal and one assist (as per Transfermarkt).

He hadn’t been a regular for the side earlier in the campaign but he became regularly involved in goals when he became a regular. So it is easy to see why Provan feels that Turnbull should’ve played for the club earlier on.
