Former Premier League star Steve Howey has told This Is Futbol that Wolves should consider a swoop for Burnley star Josh Brownhill as they look to find a replacement for Joao Moutinho.

Moutinho will turn 35 in September but he remains an integral member of Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad.

The midfielder has made 31 appearances in the Premier League thus far this season, and Wolves have been linked with a swoop for Brownhill as a potential replacement.

TEAMTalk have reported that the club have scouted the 25-year-old, along with Southampton, Crystal Palace, West Ham United and Aston Villa.

Brownhill, who is valued at £6.3m by Transfermarkt, arrived at Burnley in 2020 and he has made a total of 44 appearances for the club, playing in both central midfield and defensive midfield.

And Howey believes that Wolves should swoop for the star this summer as they look to inject some grit into the centre of the pitch, as he notes Moutinho often struggles with the defensive side of the game.

He told TIF“You would think that there’s no reason they wouldn’t look at someone like him as he’s just relentless in the work that he does. Moutinho is a playmaker, he’s a very cultured player, I don’t think you’re expecting him to be shutting down players and doing all those stats that you see midfielders doing and getting the ball back, chasing the ball back, this, that and the other.

“He’s one of these where you want him in your team because of the creativity that he’s got, but in the Premier League you want flair players but they’ve got to put a shift in as well.”
