On the latest edition of The Molineux View podcast, The Athletic’s Tim Spiers has been discussing all things Wolves related following their three points against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Morgan Gibbs-White was awarded a rare start from Nuno Espirito Santo in the victory against the Seagulls following his return from his loan spell at Swansea City.

Can Gibbs-White become a regular starter?

The 21-year-old scored in the dying minutes of the game on Sunday to provide Wolves with all three points in what was just his eighth Premier League appearance this season.

Gibbs-White was recalled from the Championship side in January as a result of injury issues troubling the Wolves side.

Discussing the young forward, Spiers revealed the behind the scenes relationship Gibbs-White has with his manager following his return from his loan spell.

He said (19:00): “So he was called back on loan. He made one start against Everton and he hasn’t made a start since until Brighton, so why wasn’t he starting? Why hasn’t he featured? And he basically said Nuno’s been very, very, very hard on him which he said he likes, which he says he respects.

“And a lot of it has to do with growing up and his maturity in terms of how he plays the game, and also his physicality, which he said he learned a lot at Swansea. He only played a few games for Swansea, but he said he learned a lot in that he needs to improve the physical side of his game and the defensive side of his game.

“He referenced the fact that Nuno said you can’t leave gaps behind you when you’ve lost possession in the middle of the park and obviously, I think he’s had issues with not fitting into 3-4-3 as well.”

TIF Thoughts on Spiers’ comments…

It did seem unfortunate for Gibbs-White to have been recalled from his loan spell to only play a handful of games at Wolves since returning.

However, from what Spiers has said there has been a lot of work going on behind the scenes between Espirito Santo and Gibbs-White in developing his game, and going off his performance on Sunday it seems to be working.

With just three games remaining in Wolves’ 2020/21 Premier League campaign, will Gibbs-White be given a run out in the starting XI?
