Former West Ham United player Brian Deane has been sharing his thoughts on the possibility of the east London club making a potential transfer move for West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Sam Johnstone during the upcoming summer window.

Speaking exclusively to Football FanCast, Deane had this to say about the possibility of Johnstone, who has been linked with a move to West Ham in the past, making the move to the London Stadium this summer.

Nice easy one to start off with, who currently sits top of the table?

He said: “He’s saved more than anyone else in the league and certainly when I’ve seen him, he’s looked a very good player.

“I think he would be a good candidate.

“He’s not let anybody down at West Brom and that could be a good move.”

West Brom signed Johnstone back in the 2018 summer transfer window from Manchester United for a fee of £6.62 million.

Since then, the 28-year-old, who is currently valued at £5.4 million, has gone on to make 130 appearances for the Baggies in which he has managed to keep 30 clean sheets (per Transfermarkt).

TIF Thoughts on Brian Deane’s comments on a potential move to West Ham for Johnstone…

Given how current Hammers goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski has had his fair share of injury issues during his time at West Ham as well as fellow goalkeeper Darren Randolph, who missed 15 games with a knock earlier this season, perhaps a move for Johnstone would be a smart move for the east London club this summer, especially since the Englishman has proven his reliability by playing in all but one of every single league game for the Baggies this season.

In our view, if Johnstone would like to keep playing in the Premier League and not in the Championship with the relegated Baggies, perhaps a move to West Ham would be beneficial for the shot-stopper if he would be a guaranteed starter for the Hammers.
