Speaking exclusively to This Is Futbol, former West Ham striker Brian Deane believes a £50m transfer budget is sufficient enough for David Moyes this summer.

This comes after Claret and Hugh reported that the Hammers boss is set to be handed £50m to reinforce his side ahead of the 2021/22 season.

With West Ham likely to feature in Europe next season, Moyes will need a bigger squad to allow him to rotate. Bearing that in mind, some may feel that £50m is simply not enough to make significant additions.

Nice easy one to start off with. How much do you think Declan Rice is worth?

Deane, however, has warned that it is not all about spending money, but rather having a good recruitment system in place.

On the reported £50m budget Moyes could be handed, the ex-West Ham player told TIF in an exclusive interview:

“For me, that’s a good budget. Anybody can go out and spend £100m on a player, but having people in the building who have that kind of knowledge and understanding of what players are going to be best for the system [is important].

You don’t need to go and spend huge amounts of money. You just need to be able to recruit and scout properly. Simple.”

West Ham have had a lot of success with signings who have cost less than £30m, especially of late. The likes of Tomas Soucek and Jesse Lingard, the 28-year-old brought to the club on loan, have really been among the goals this season.

Taking that into account, perhaps David Gold and David Sullivan do not need to go out and spend large on new signings.
