Ex-WHU Employee has been speaking on the latest edition of The West Ham Way podcast about all things relating to West Ham United.

Nice easy one to start off with. How much do you think Declan Rice is worth?

One of the topics that Ex spent some time on was the Hammers’ transfer budget after they secured a sixth-place finish in the Premier League, meaning they will be in the Europa League next season.

Now, it seems that David Moyes will be given a decent amount to spend and a new contract to reward him for a brilliant season.

Ex said: (1:05:32) “In terms of the transfer budget, I believe David Moyes has been told he’s got a £50m to £60m transfer budget, added to any player sales that he makes.

“So we’re probably looking at around £70m roughly to spend on players.

(1:06:12) “The reason that Moyes is aware of his transfer budget is because he’s in talks to get a new contract himself.

“I believe that this will be offered to him at the start of next week, they’ll have talks, and that’ll be one of the first things to happen will be to get him on a new contract.

“He’s been offered a new two-year deal, and [we have] an option of a third-year extension put to him, but also with a breakout clause that if things go wrong, then West Ham can get rid of him, but it’s a significantly improved contract to what he was on.”

Do you think that West Ham will have this much to spend?

TIF Thoughts on West Ham’s budget and Moyes’ new deal…

The Scotsman led the Hammers to a fantastic finish, their highest in the Premier League since the 1998/99 season, so he obviously deserves a new deal.

If what Ex says is true, then that budget is also pretty good, and it should allow the Hammers to get the players they want.

The club have been linked with a move for Tammy Abraham, who is set to cost over £40m, which would be a significant portion of the budget, but crucially, West Ham could afford him, which Moyes didn’t think was possible too long ago.

We will have to see if this turns out to be the budget, but if it does, the Hammers could be in for an exciting summer.
