Alasdair Gold has been speaking all things Tottenham Hotspur on his latest YouTube video following the conclusion of the 2020/21 campaign.

One topic of discussion was Daniel Levy’s search for a new manager following the sacking of Jose Mourinho in April which brought an end to his 17-month stint at the north London club.

Would you welcome Roberto Martinez at Spurs?

Former Spurs midfielder Ryan Mason took the reins on an interim basis until the end of the season which saw the Lilywhites finish in seventh spot of the Premier League table.

Amid much speculation surrounding candidates to become the next manager, one name which has emerged as a possible option for Levy is Belgium manager Roberto Martinez.

However, Gold wanted to provide his thoughts on the report from Sky Sports which surfaced on Tuesday.

He said: “From everything I understand on him, and I said this to you guys before that he’s someone that Spurs like, they like his style of play. They like his kind of methodology with football and the way his teams play.

“However, I understand he’s not a contender for the role. There was some talk that he might get a big job in Spain after the Euros as well. So [you] kind of have to keep an eye on him.

“But as far as I’m aware, not for Tottenham on this occasion, which to be honest, would probably go down well with the fans. I don’t think fans will probably take too well to Roberto Martinez coming in.”

TIF Thoughts on Martinez as an option…

Martinez had a sticky end to life on Merseyside when he was managing Everton. On the back of an impressive fifth-place finish in the 2013/14 Premier League season, Martinez guided the Toffees to back-to-back 11th-place finishes (via Transfermarkt).

As manager of the Belgian national side, Martinez has taken the Red Devils to the 2018 World Cup semi-final, however, ultimately fell short against France.

Gold has suggested the fans will be happy to hear Martinez is not being considered, and looking at his last two seasons at Everton it is clear to see why.
